    listen to someone's preaching

    Hello.

We go to church to listen to his sermon every Sunday.
Would it be okay to write: "We go to church to listen to his preaching every Sunday."?

    Thank you.

Gramatically it's correct, but the first sentence is a friendlier way of saying it.

You could also say "We go to church to hear him speak every Sunday."

"Preaching" has a more stern connotation.

    I am not a teacher.

'Preaching' only has this connotation because it's used pejoratively for unwanted advice giving.
When 'preaching' is used with it's primary denotation, there is no pejorative sense. They actually are going to be preached to.
