    Apposition

    Hello, I'm from Argentina. We're studying syntax. But a can't get well. I ahve adoubt about apposition, I have these sentence:
    they told me that the new that he would be back soon was received with joy and that they consider it amazing what he had done.
    my question is: that it is the same as what he had done. Would it be an appositional case.
    I will appreciate your answer because this sentence is driving me crazy. that you

    Hay que arreglar la frase un poquito:
    they told me that the new that he would be back soon was received with joy and that they consider it amazing what he had done.

    They told me that the news that he would be back soon was received with joy, and that they consider it amazing what he had done.

    All non-defining relative clauses are appositives. So you have here:

    They told me that the news
    (that he would be back soon was received with joy)
    and that they consider it amazing (what he had done.)

    You can leave out the bits in brackets, and not make the sentence ungrammatical, so they are the appositives.

    People may tell you this is incorrect, because in the past I have been misinformed here on this forum about this. I suggest they look up Guglielmo Cinque, Lear: Two Types of Appositives
