    Match or Game in Sport

I'm confused about when to say match and when to say game talking about sport.

I was told not to say "a golf match" to say "a golf game" but I can say "a football match" is there a rule that I can study or can anyone help me?

A match consists of one (football, rugby etc.) or more games. A tennis match, for example , consists of several games.
