    Question war indemnities and reparations

Post-Opium War Chinese history had always been a grim reading of horror -- war indemnities and reparations, international clown as the Sick Man of the East, until the advent of M.ao's revolution beginning 59 years ago.
Can I remove either indemnities or reparations? It seems to me these two words are synonyms.

    Thanks!

    Re: war indemnities and reparations

    Hello, I am 'The French',

I think the sense of these two words is nearly the same, but there is one little difference.

The meaning of "war indemnities" is the money which is paid by the loser of the war. In another way reparations don't need always money to be done.

    Have a nice day.
