    The abbreviation-etc.

    The abbreviation etc. looks ugly to me. Moreover, I find it generates errors in usage. If you agree, would you discuss this matter?

    I agree with the second proposition - that it generates errors. "ect." always means electroconvulsive therapy to me, and I do find it funny when people write "I enjoy singing, dancing, ect."
    But if you want to avoid errors, you'd have to stop using language. I don't find the correct form ugly.
