Need Help to Correct Grammar mistakes

On Wednesday July 1, 2009, He picked us up and took us to the Grouse Mountain, it was about half an hour drive from our house. We have heard and seen the Grouse Mountain before but we never thought in million years we could hike up to the grind. It is about 4,100 feet tall. After we arrived, we were astounded of how many people including kids were out hiking. It was a wake up call for us, how inactive we were and need to be more active for the purpose of getting good health and being in good shape.

We have heard and seen the Grouse Mountain before but we never thought in a million years we could hike up to the grind [up to the grind? I haven't heard of this. Is it a Canadian term? Or is the Grind a named feature of the mountain? If so, it should be in capitals]. It is about 4,100 feet tall. After we arrived, we were astounded of by how many people, including kids, were out hiking. It was a wake up call for us [No. This is a far, far, far too over-used cliche. In any case, you've just hiked up the mountain yourself. If one of you had had a heart attack from the exertion, that could be called a wake up call], how inactive we were and how we needed to be more active for the purpose of getting good health and being in good shape.
