Question What is meaning of 'the real point came in parentheses'?

    Dear Teacher,
    There are these sentences:
Of course it won't be in intelligence, so you'll come down to your actual rank of F/O." As so often happens, the real point came in parentheses.
Then, what is meaning of 'the real point came in parentheses'?
    Explain it.Thanks.

Re: What is meaning of 'the real point came in parentheses'?

Apparently, the fact that the narrator was reduced in rank to F/O (Field Officer; First Officer; Front Officer...context??) is the real point of the conversation. However, it is communicated in such a way that it seems like an afterthought, almost as if it were a parenthetical comment rather than the real point.

That's about the best I can do with no context.

    Hello, Mr./Lady Dragn ,
Thank you very much for your good explanation. F/O could, I suppose, be Flying Officer because the narrator was then in the RAF.

Yes, it may well be Flying Officer. I'm less familiar with things pertaining to the RAF since I'm American.

And it's Mr. Dragn, incidentally. I just assumed my name (Greg) was a sufficient clue.

Suizhou belongs to mainland China while Taipei not belongs to mainland China at the moment. Taipei is the de facto capital of ROC (Republic of China).

I think it is better not to confuse mainland China and Republic of China.

We all know that here in Taiwan, but I let it slide out of politeness. The forum for political wrangling is down the hall.

I am very interested in the language words and phrases of being used by Teacher Greg , but I don't know the meaning of 'down the hall'. Would you like to explain for me?

Re: What is meaning of 'the real point came in parentheses'?

I was joking. I just meant this is not the place for it. The forum for political wrangling is somewhere else, likening this website to a building with many floors and many hallways, with many rooms where different activities are taking place.

I succeeded in stifling the almost overwhelming urge to respond to your inappropriate words because it's a sensitive topic and I figured it would lead to the thread getting deleted by the moderators. You are free to believe whatever you please concerning Taiwan...but I strongly suggest you keep it out of this forum. Such threads will surely be short-lived.
