    all hands/ ail/ get canned

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I’m right with my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentences?

“The Squirrel had gone down with all hands.”

all hands = all of the officers and sailors aboard a ship.

"What ails you, my dearest father? Are you ill?" inquired the young man, much alarmed.

ail = to feel ill or have pain.

    What’s the matter, dear?
Susan, I got canned today at work.

get canned [slang] to lose one’s job; to get fired

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V.
