    'Went' or 'Had been to'?

Hi, I'm an English learner and I've got some grammar problems that confuse me a lot. I hope the teachers here could give me some help. Thank you.

I want to know whether this 2 sentences are correct or not:

I'd been to somewhere on 25(date) night.
I went to sw on 25 night.

Or would it be more natural to say 'I went/'d been to sw on saturday night'?

And what is the difference between 'had been to' and 'went to'?

    Thanks

What tends to be confusing is that there two irregular verb forms are being used together-go and has. Went is a simple past tense form and would most likely be used. For example, I went to the movies last night.

'Had been to' is the past perfect tense of both has and go.

Thanks, and I want to know if it sounds strange to put the date ie 'on 25 night'(but not 25 Jul) in the sentence?
