    Question What are these words?

    Hi dear teachers!

I have a question which confuses me a lot. What are 'supposed to' and 'ought to' and when do we use them and what do they mean?

    Thanks.

For example: 'I am supposed to wash the car today', this means that I am expected to wash the car today, someone has asked me to do it.
'I ought to wash the car today', the car is dirty, it needs to be washed, I should do it because it's my responsibility.

    Re: What are these words?

Yes, they refer to a social norm, a cultural expectation, and a general sense of obligation due to such norms.
