    Question MMORPGs

    Hello everyone,

I have a question concerning the acronym MMORPG which stands for "Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game".

When I first learned about what it stands for I thought it was wrong, because I actually did expect it to be "Massive Multiplayer ..." with an adjective at the beginning. However, soon I came to see that this expression was indeed forged by people having English as their mother tongue.

Could anyone explain to me why it is possible to use the adverb massively in this case and perhaps what the grammatical function of this construction is?
Could you also state other examples where this occurs?

    Thank you and best wishes,
    Miriam

    Re: MMORPGs

The sort of language use often found amongst those who are trying to impress. They perceive "massively" as stronger than "massive" on its own.

    Very much advertising speak.
