Could you provide a bit more information? I don't want to misinform you. There are two types of "hedges". 1) Hedges are simply bushes that act as barriers around a person's property. 2) Hedges (hedge) is a term that is used to hesitate. I don't know if either of these help.

Yes Lady Hawk is correct. Hedges are nothing but thorny or leafy bushes which are used to put as barriers around one's garden or farm or house.

    Hi geligeli,

May I have your attention, please?

Here is an interesting and up-to-day interpretation of the term in question.

I think vil's (and susiedqq's] suggestion may well be appropriate, but Lady Hawk's request for more information points to the central point: you can't understand a word (and teachers can't help much) if you don't specify a context. In this case - if this is the right context - you could have said 'I've just received a letter from my broker, and..?'; then all this talk of green barriers could have been avoided (unless BobK came along as usual and started explaining the metaphor... .
