    send messages through time??

    Hi,

Could you please tell me what "send messages through time" means in the following passage.
This was part of a reading comprehension, I could post the whole text if needed.

There is one thing among all that makes people and animals different. People love to talk. We are great talkers. We can send messages in so many ways. Most important of all, we can write, so we can send messages through time. We have an understanding of past and future, not just present.

    Thanks, in advance

    Re: send messages through time??

Because humans have written communication, we can read, in 2009, the thoughts of someone who lived 100 years ago or 1000 years ago. In a way, the person who writes down what is happening or what she is thinking is sending a message to a person in the future, because someone can read it later in time.

    Thanks for the reply.

Here's one of the questions asked according to the text:

To be able "to send messages through time" means to have the ability to .... .

    1) talk about past, future and present
    2) speak to both humans and animals
    3) speak about time
    4) send messages in different ways
I think the closest answer would be '1', but is it a standard question to ask according to the text and does it really mean that or would we have to just pick '1' just because the other answers aren't correct?
Or am I wrong and the answer isn't '1'?
