    About phrases

    I have used dictionary to do this exercise, but there are too many words provided when you look up a phrase by its preposition. I've done several sentences, could you please help me check them? Thank you so much!

    Complete each sentence with a suitable word or phrase:
    1. Everyone turned up, ............. of Ben, who was ill.
    2. I'm sorry. I was under .............. that this seat was free.
    3. If I were you I'd have the brakes ........... to before you cause an accident.
    4. They sent us the goods on ........... for three weeks, but then we had to pay for them.
    5. When I saw the house it ............. of the on I grew up in.
    6. Don't worry about the missing dog. It will .............. up when it gets hungry!
    7. What exactly do the letters BBC stand for?
    8. I'm going to the airport to see off some friends who are going to Canada.
    9. It seemed like a good plan, but when we ............... out it didn't work.
    10. Even if you are miserable, there's no need to blame on me!
    11. The Foreign Secretary was looked into the Prime Minister's successor.
    12. Bob planned to murder his wife, but when the moment came he couldn't go ............
