Why did the chicken cross the road?

This seems to be the most classical American joke, right?

Well since everybody seems to know the expected answer (to get to the other side), people have made up alternative answers, such as:

    - Why did the chicken cross the road?
    - To get to the other side.
    - Wrong! To show the dog that it was possible.

I was wondering if there are other alternative answers rather than the above one. Would you mind telling me some?

P.S.: Feel free to correct any possible mistakes of mine on this post.

Why did the chicken cross the road? The sign changed from "Don't walk" to "Walk".

Why did the chicken cross the road? There were no cars coming.

Why did the chicken cross the road? The chicken crossed the road because it was able to.

Why did the chicken cross the road? The chicken crossed the road to get something to eat at the sub shop. (That's a local term, I think. Sandwich shop might be more "universal English".)

Why did the chicken cross the road? The chicken crossed the road because the road crossed the chicken first.

    9. Informal. To interfere with; thwart or obstruct: Don't cross me.
    10. To betray or deceive; double-cross. Often used with up.

I don't think it's often used with "up", but whatever... ...

Re: Why did the chicken cross the road?

You guys left me rolling on the floor laughing. Thanks. Extremely interesting and funny answers. I guess I'll do the same with my students next class, there is an audio on the book with that joke (a simple one, but I'll improve it!).

    Thanks again.
