    Cool Turn someone in will

In following sentence: "Turning him in will give the cop the
promotion he has been waiting" I don't quite understand "will."

Background is about an undercover cop facing a conundrum when he has to catch a drug dealer who turn to be a friend of him.

Wouldn't be possible that "will" is a mistake, really meaning "jail"? Does it make sense in English to say "Turning him in jail give the cop..."?

    Thank You

"Turning someone in" is a phrasal verb meaning handing them over to the police, or tipping off the police about someone. "Will" has its usual meaning - "will give ..."
If we tip off Sgt. Smith about this person, this will give him the promotion he's been waiting for.
