    Not using Past perfect

    Like in this sentense:
I studied English before I moved to the US.
Is it correct? Or I have to use "had"
I had studied English before I moved to the US.

    Thanks

    You should write
I had studied English, before I moved in the USA.
You use the Past Perfect do describe a previous event in the past, and the Simple Past to describe a more recent one. Both events should be in the Past. It usually works like this Before he joined the army, he had only worked as a salesman.

    Re: Not using Past perfect

    I have a different opinion.

The use of "before" makes it completely clear which happened first so you do not need the past perfect. Simple past is okay in that sentence.
