what corrodes metals? or what corrode metals?

    Hi,
I' d like to know if it correct to say:
    1) What corrodes metals? Acids
    2) What corrode metals? Acids

Do I have to use the third person singular form of the verb or does the verb form depends on the answers, which is plural in this case?

    Thanks. Rip

Yes, you must use the 3rd person singular form of the verb.

Oxygen corrodes most metals, along with other negative ions in salts ... rather than acids.

I don't like any of them, I would advise the continuous (ing) form:

    1) + 2). Who is coming to the party? Susan and John.
    3) + 4). Who is not coming to the party? Susan and John.
