    occupation/calling/ vocation

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to explain to me the difference between the meanings of “occupation”, “calling” and “vocation”?

He is by occupation a teacher.
He has to choose teaching as a vocation.
It is high time to make my choice of a calling.
    What is your vocation?
    What is your calling?
His calling is that of a preacher.
I think I should have shown (in the novel) a strong vocation in boyhood, crushed by the will of his father or sacrificed to the necessity of earning a living….
Her vocation is teaching- after a Normal education.

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V.

    Re: occupation/calling/ vocation

This is how I understand those three.

Occupation - it's a proffesion. Type of job.

By calling I understand that someone is passionate about something and that's what he/she want's to do or become in life i.e. She likes being around children, she wants to become a teacher. That is her calling.

Vocation for me is a particular occupation for which you are trained.

    Correct me if I'm wrong.

And what if you're not wrong?

You've answered the questions correctly. As well, I don't think your blond hair is fake, but only you would know that.
