    lay down

    Hi

Is it a good sentence: He said he would lay down of his life for his friends.

--- Do I need "of" after "lay down"?

    cheers

Leave out "of". It's not necessary, and I'd say it's incorrect as well.

    Re: lay down

    Hi
I read such a sentence on the internet:

He had talked about Jesus' surrender to God's will, his willingness to lay down of his life for his friends to let them know the strength of his love for them.

--- Is the "of" in the sentence above incorrect?

The phrase "lay down of his life" sounds very literary and formal, as well as very irregular. You may read this phrase in such a context, but I wouldn't learn it or study as a practical matter.

    Re: lay down

So you would rather write/say it without that "of", right?

    thanks

    Yes, definitely.
