How the town had grown! She felt the first surge of interest she __known in months.

I think the blank should be filled with "hadn't", right? Please.

'Had' is the word you need? "She felt the first surge of interest (that) she had known in months."

How the town has grown! She felt the surge of interest that she hadn't experienced for a long time.

Is this a good sentence? Please.

There are two sentences, they are both ok individually, although the second would be better with "a surge" rather than "the surge". If you want the two to go together however, which I think you do, the first should be "How the town had grown"
