    Being Honest

Could any teachers tell me the actual meaning of the that clauses underlined. Thank you very much.

"They understood instinctively that integrity means having a personal standard of morality and ethics that does not sell out to expediency and that is not relative to the situation at hand. Integrity is an inner standard for judging your behaviour."

    Re: Being Honest

It means that integrity cannot be bought with money nor be flexible according to any given situation.
Hope I understood in a way that matches the rest of your text
