    count among

Is the use of "count among" correct in this sentence?

Other federations tend to count among their members, which makes them composite bodies.

    Thanks.

    Re: count among

    Perhaps I wasn't clear enough.

I know that "X counts Z, Y and W among its members" is correct. But can one also say "Z, Y and W count among the members of X"?

    Thanks.

If you give all the members, "W, Y and Z are the members of X"
    "X comprises W, Y and Z", "X is composed of W, Y and Z".
If you give all members, then "X counts Z, Y and W among its members" sounds wrong to me. They are not among its members, they are its members.
You could say "X counts Z, Y and W as its members"

If you only give some, "W and Y count among the members of X".
So, "Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Armenia count among the former members of USSR".
