Asking a teacher for a reference during winter break?

I'm transferring colleges and just found out that I need a reference letter from one of my teachers before Jan 10th. I know which teacher to ask but my problem is that we are already on winter break and I'm not sure if it's considered rude sending him an email and asking him for a reference during vacation time. How should I go about doing this? Immediately? After Christmas?

Your information does not say where you are, so I don't understand why you are now on winter break. However, I would recommend that you go ahead and send the email immediately. It is much more inconvenient to wait until after Christmas, because then there is a very short time before the recommendation must be submitted.
