Thumbs down to give a handle

To get (or to have) a handle on something means to understand. Can I use the word "handle" in the phrase " to give a handle to someone" for the meaning " to facilitate" ? For exmple, will it be correct if I say: " this action of yours will give a handle to your brother-in-law to provoke your wife".

No, but we do say "to give a hand".

    Re: to give a handle

    I'm not a teacher.

    Hi Romel Panzer,

Here are a few words concerning the matter in question:

{To give a handle} = to furnish an occasion or means

handle (n) = an opportunity or a means for achieving a purpose
to give a handle = give cause for, give occasion for

    Regards,

    V.
