a cut way above the average

    Hi!

I came across the following phrase, which is not quite clear to me. Can you help me? Here is the whole sentence.

"Known across the city, the bar is almost always bursting with diners eager to feast on Pep's tapas, a cut way above the average."

    Thank you!

The phrase "a cut above the average" means better than average/good, so by extension "a cut way above the average" means much better than average/very good. Here "way" is used like "a long way/far", a long way/far above the average.
