Use can be used as uncountable noun; meaning, the action or fact of using something, as:</SPAN>
an exit for use in emergencies, the increasing use of computers in education
Use can be used as countable noun; meaning, a purpose for which something can be used, as</SPAN>:
Robots have many different uses in modern industry
Usage is also a (C/U)noun having specific meaning:
(C)the way a particular word in a language, or a language in general, is used, as:
a guide to common English usage, a book on modern English usage
(U)It can be also used to express the way in which something is treated or used.
    Water usage is increasing.
This equipment is designed to withstand rough usage.

    Re: use vs usage

So I guess if I want to ask which way a native speaker deals with a specific word for example, I should ask about such word usage rather than its use. Correct?

    For example:
What is the most common usage of the word couch?
    instead of
What is the most common use of the word couch?
    Or
What can you tell me about the usage of such specific word?
    instead of
What can you tell me about the use of such specific word?

    Is that it ?

    Re: use vs usage

In language learning, they have been defined as follows:

USAGE and USE - Terms used by Widdowson (1978) to refer to two aspects of communicative performance
    a) the ability to produce correct sentences, or manifestations of the linguistic system = USAGE.
    b) the ability to use the knowledge of the rules for effective communication = USE.
