    pick up a tense

    Are the underlined tenses correct?

    Unfortunately,I am not communicating with the Matis as I don't know their language. So there's plenty of work for me to do.

    Yes, this is all right.

    I think it would be more usual to say, "I can't communicate" rather than "I am not communicating."

    "I am not communicating" has been co-opted by its use as a declaration of the Silent Treatment: "I am not communicating with my boyfriend right now. He made me mad when he stood me up, so I'm not speaking to him until he makes up with me."

    > There should be a space after the comma
    "Unfortunately, I am not communicating ..."
