    Doubt in a phrase

    I read this phrase somewhere:

    My son is bright 21 year old. He's quiet, an idealisticand reads a lot. Though he's very polite with others, he is rather reserved. But if he gets angry he takes it all out on me! i don't like his cynical attitude. How can I help him?

    Now I am not able to understand the meaning of the word ---> cynical here. Can anyone explain me?

    If somebody's cynical,
    a)they believe that people are only interested in themselves and are not sincere;
    b) they use other people's feelings and emotions to their own advantage
