    So, yesterday?

Jane sighed and shifted her feet. I dunno . . . I suppose its
his dad really. Giving John a hard time. She looked at me
and frowned as if unsure how to explain it all. Then she lifted
her hands, stroking one of her fingernails like a tiny pet.

So, yesterday? Jane continued. They lost the game,
and Johns dad had a go at him. I wasnt there, but when
I came over John started yelling at
    me, saying that I wasnt

    there when he needed me.

What is the meaning of So, yesterday? here?

    Re: So, yesterday?

From the brief context available, it is "So [what happened] yesterday?"

    Re: So, yesterday?

But who ask this question? Jane or the other person?

    Re: So, yesterday?

"Jane continued", so it is Jane.

    Re: So, yesterday?

It is a common way for teenage girls to speak so that everything they say sounds like a question.

So yesterday? (You know what I mean? You're with me in the story so far? You're listenting to me and know I'm talking about yesterday? Okay good, I'll continue.)

We were at his house? (You know his house, right? Okay,...)

And his dad comes in? (You know his dad, right? You've met him? Well, at least heard me talk about him. I mean, you know about this idea of his having a father?)

And yes, it's very annoying to listen to.

    Re: So, yesterday?

Since the "So, yesterday?" has a question mark behind it, I think it is the other person asking, so what happened. And then Jane continued on to explain what happened.

    I am not a teacher.
