    how to use AND here

I took the knife from shelf and cut vegetables and started cooking.

    (1) Is the above sentence correct ?

    (2) Can we use 'and' as many times as we can ?

    (3) If the above sentence is wrong then please help me to make it correct.

    (4) Please give me some alternatives also .

    Thanks,

    Chiru.

When an action or event follow another in a sequence with the same subject, you can use a comma at the completion of each action and use ‘and’ to join the last action. Accordingly you sentence can be modified as:
I took the knife from shell, cut some vegetables with it and started cooking.
You can use ‘and’ any number of times as necessary in a sentence to express a complete thought

Here is an example of multiple use of 'and'
The man requested me to provide a shelter and food for the night and some money before leaving and I could manage to keep his request and paid him rupees one hundred and fifty when he left the place the next day.
