    "To Give Credit to"

Dear Sirs, I would like to know the meaning of the underlined expression in the following sentence.

"Document all of your sources in your Bibliography and be sure to give credit to any quotes you use."

    Thank you for your advice.

to give credit to means to recognize the good someone has done or to recognize someone else's contribution to something.

Example: I give credit to mother for helping me understand people and my father for a love of language.

In your case, when one writes an academic paper, whenever you use someone else's ideas, you put quotations around them and you must note, with a footnote where you got the quote from. This constitutes 'giving them credit'.
