    two questions in mind

    Hello everybody,

I've got two questions in mind.Firstly, is it correct to say 'Do you remember that I have lent you my notebook?' and secondly what is the difference between ago and before. One last thing that I'd like to ask is if the verb 'feel' changes meaning when '-ing' is added.Thank you in advance.

    P.S.
Feel free to correct any mistakes in my post.

I think "Do you remember that I lent you my notebook" is probably going to end up being the correct verb. But it depends on the context and on what the speaker is trying to say.

That seems like it's going to be a really big question with a really big answer. Can you narrow it down a bit?

"To feel" has more than one meaning, but the meaning isn't dependent on adding "-ing." That is a false generalization.

Example: "to feel" in its sense of "to perceive by the sense of touch"
    - In the old days during blizzards, police sergeants felt the badges of the beat cops. If a cop's badge was warm, the sergeant would know the officer had been cooping. If the badge was cold, the sergeant would give him a scratch.
    - In the old days during blizzards, sergeants went around feeling the badges of the beat cops. etc..

Example: "to feel" in its sense of "to have an emotion"
    - I felt bad when my dog died.
    - I've been feeling bad ever since my dog died.

Thank you very much about your help.As for the use of 'ago' and 'before', I was wondering which is the basic criterion that defines their use.Are they used interchangeably? Also, is there a difference between
    1.how do you feel now?
    2.how are you feeling now?

Ago is before the present. Before is used to describe antecedents for other moments, other than the present.

I was born 39 years ago. (Before NOW).

My mother was born 30 years before that.

    Re: two questions in mind

The 'ago'/'before' difference may be summed up in one example:

I lent you my pencil-sharpener la week ago, but I had already lent you my highlighter-pen before that.

There are lots of associated issues and subtleties, but I think this difference in directness is the main one. The word 'directness' is a clue to the way this works in direct/indirect speech.

'I lent you my pencil-sharpener a week ago.' ['ago' means 'before now']
He said that he had lent her his PS a week before. ['before' means 'before then']
