    Cool against the stream?

    Hi,

When someone passes though difficult moments, can we say "He's swimming against the stream"?

    Re: against the stream?

Not exactly. There are many words for difficult times, but swimming against the stream, or upstream, or against the current, mean "being socially different" and "going against the norms" of other people. The water represesnts the masses of "orthodox" people.

He's going through a rough time right now.
He has a challenges to deal with right now.
His focus right now is dealing with some difficulties.

    I am not a teacher.

I take it that you agree with the previous post and are giving these examples as alternatives for "passes though difficult moments" rather than as meanings for "swimming against the stream". I hope so.

That's how I ended up taking it as well.
