    When to use

    Hi

Can anyone advise when to use "Among the first" and when to use "one of the first".

    Thanks
    Ash

    I don't think there's much difference.

Possibly "one of the first" sounds a little firstlyer, and possibly "among the first" sounds like it's hedging a little -- but not really very much in either case.

You can use "among the first" with a plural subject.
My three children were among the first students enrolled at the new school.
Among the first countries to ratify the treaty were Australia and Canada.

A much better answer than mine.
