    AN ANTONYM FOR THOSE

    NEED HELP!!! im looking for an antonym for those i was thinking THIS cuz it refers to a singular as opposed to plural can anyone help me out thanks

    But who knows what the teacher had in mind. These words aren't exactly opposites, so the assignment could mean anything.

    The "opposite" of "this" is hardly "these," and "that" is not really an antonym either.

    The asker can consider "those" as a plural, in which case, "that" might be the expected answer. Or he could consider "those" in its sense of indicating distance, so that "these" might be the answer the teacher expects.

    It's far from rare for homework questions to be unanswerable just for reasons like this. When I was a kid, the whole school engaged in a protracted controversy concerning the "right" answer to:

    "Which sense is stronger -- the sense of taste or the sense of smell?"

    I do believe that the students were willing to whip up a fuss in the spirit of mischief-making, but the goofiness of the question certainly gave them something to latch on to.
