    Exclamation seem vs look

    Hello there.

Can I say "looks" instead of "seems"?

It seems hard for me to call you this afternoon.

No, certainly not in this case.
And generally no - unless it seems so because it looks so.

The radio looks (seems) louder than it was before. Wrong. Use 'sounds'
The TV looks (seems) brighter than it was before. Right
This milk looks (seems) as if it's gone sour. Wrong Use 'smells'
    You look (seem) happy. Right.

    Re: seem vs look

Another difference is that 'looks' is something that can quickly be seen and understood. For example,

He looked surprised. (His eyes were big and his mouth was open.)

He seemed surprised. (It wasn't completely clear, but he acted a little differently.)

I just wrote a blog post about this: seem and look If you want to learn a little more.
