    Cool "The given" one of the story

    What's the meaning of "the given" when we say
    "Paul is 'the given' of this story?

    May it mean 'the one', the 'very important one' or something like that?
    Could it make sense as 'the chosen one' because special?

    You haven't given enough context. Who said "Paul is the given", and in what context was it said. Are those words part of the story?
