can someone give me some definite rule for using by and with in sentences. Is there any rule I can tell my ESL student besides, "it just sounds right"??

    Re: preposition

By + person, thing that did the action
With + thing used for the action
It was covered with paint. (paint didn't do the covering, someone poured the paint)
