    speak out/say

The Omnipresent God materialized before the devotee who had done penance for 5 years for the God to appear and fulfill his wish. ( Penance is an unbroken prayerful mediation). The God, being unaware of devotee's true wish, asks him to .....(say, speak out) his wish, which He wanted to grant.

Can you please me fill in the blank with an appropriate word?

    Dear Dr. Appalayya:

    Are these the only choices?
'...asks him to say his wish...' is understandable, but seems awkward to me.
I would not use 'speak out.'
I think I would say, '...asks him to state his wish...'
    or
'asks him to make his wish known'
    or
'asks him to speak his wish aloud'

    I hope this is helpful,

    Petra
