Question Ran onto, into, on the street..?

    Hi,

    Which is appropriate and why?

The people ran into the street.

The people ran onto the street.

The people ran on the street.

The people ran down the street.

    Thanks

They are all possible, it depends on how you want to use them.

Could you please elaborate on what meaning each sentence would convey or in which context each can be used??
