    preposition + adjective

    I learned one sentence recently.

    He is anything but well.

Here "but" should be preposition and "well" be adjective. Right?
    Is it common in English?
As I know, word after preposition is often noun, pronoun, etc, but not adjective.

Hello I am The French, (I'm not a teacher),

but the word 'but' is a conjunction and the word 'well' is an adverb (good adjective for well).

But is a conjunction and it's function is to connect two clauses.

Have a nice day and a sunny day.

    Hi The French,
Thank you very much for your attention and response.
But what you said cannot explain another sentence that I learned along with the first one I mentioned above.

    She is all but beautiful.

Have you ever met similar case?
