    When did you COME back?

Here are a few more that are like your example:

    What did you do?
    Where did you go?
    Why didn't you call me?
    How did you like it?

(NOTE: There is never a space before the question mark, but there is always a double space after it when it ends a sentence. That's true for all full stops and colons.)

"When did you get back? (double space) Why didn't you call me from the airport?" his brother asked.

I have never come across this "double space rule after the question mark". Its something new for me...

Oh, no. Not at all. It is the absolute gold standard for typing and typesetting. A double space between sentences vastly improves readability, and it's too bad that many places like this one don't support it.

Keyboarding instruction is always "period space space" -vs- "comma space."

Here is a web site that advocates against the use of a double space

Thats logical that it improves readability, however are there any books/articles which state the same...

    Thanks

Word's Spellcheck gives me a wavy line under an accidental double space between words, but not the double space between sentences (which it prints.)

But I think it does not signal an accidental single space between sentences, and I know it doesn't signal an accidental triple space either between words or between sentences.

I will admit to Ray that the practice is more discouraged than I had realized. I find that Boston Latin School was quite conservative in its grammar -- we had to use the serial comma (or ELSE!), for example.

There are some fonts that have wide spaces already, so in that case, I might delete the extra space between sentences.

    (fixedsys font)
I don't know how this will print. I used a double space between these two sentences.
