    eye each other off?

    "Dancer shook the outstretched hand. 'Is there a photograph?' he asked Aaron while he and Lee eyed each other off."

    Not sure what doest that mean, please help me with it, thanks.

    Nor am I. It's not an expression I've met. I imagine they were doing what would be expressed in Br English as 'eyeing each other up' or 'sizing each other up' - considering what they're capable of/what they're 'up to' - in a context like this, it sounds as though Aaron and Lee are wondering how they would get on in a fight.
