    rephrasing of eight sentences 2

    Dear teachers,

    Would you be kind enough to share with me your opinion concerning my trial to rephrase the following sentences?

    1.1. There was a crowd gathering, anxious to see the fight.
    1.2. There was a crowd collecting, anxious to see the fight.

    2.1. We have to gather pebbles on the shore.
    2.2. We have to collect pebbles on the shore.

    3.1. The well brought-up children gathered the scattered toys from the floor.
    3.2. The well brought-up children collected the scattered toys from the floor.

    4..1. Little beads of sweat gathered on his forehead.
    4.2. Little beads of sweat collected on his forehead.

    5.1. The census is the other common direct method of collecting demographic data.

    These are all perfect.

    Gather and collect are not always exact synonyms

    - Gather expresses the general idea usually with no implication of arrangement: to gather seashells.
    - Collect implies purposeful accumulation to form an ordered whole: to collect evidence.
