What do you call a store that sells equipment needed to finish a house like wood, paints, maybe doors, maybe some houswares like shower cabins ? Are there such stores in teh UK and US?

Big stores of this type in the UK are called "Do It Yourself" or "DIY" stores.
These cater for the general public and the building/plumbing/electrical tradesmen.

"Builders' Merchants" provide the same service, but usually only for tradesmen.
