    to show the white feather

Hi! I am trying to compare idioms of different languages, especially those that contain a colour term in their form. Colour symbolism varies from culture to culture, in some cases considerably. There are of course some similarities to be found too. I was wondering whether there are any equivalents in other languages to English idioms; as a black sheep is schwarzes Schaf in German, and oveja negra in spanish, etc. Is there any similar idiom in Spanish to "to show the white feather"? in German, e.g., the meaning can be rendered with "den Schwanz einziehen" (to hide the tail). Thank you
