    Sentence

    I copy this from Chapter XII, Gone with the wind:

    " I don't know what it is about him," she would sigh helplessly."But- well, I think he'd be a nice, attractive man if I could just feel that - well, that deep down in his heart he respected women.'..........Scarlett silently agreed with Aunt Pitty. She, too, felt that he had no respect for any women,......

    I think there is a print error of the words in black type. It should be "he respected no women". Right? Please.

    It certainly looks contradictory.

    I'm not a professional teacher, but here is how I parsed this. She said that she thought he would be a nice, attractive man IF she could feel that he respected women. That implies that she did not think he respected women, and that is the viewpoint Scarlett shared. I look forward to being corrected.

    Yes, you are right Stuart, I missed that crucial "if".
