    They .............. us the information we need after they .............. the inquiries.

    A) gave / had finished (key)
    B) have given / will finish
    C) will give / have finished
    D) were giving / had finished
    E) had given / finish


    If it is A, shouldn't the sentence be:

    They gave us the information we needed after they had finished the inquiries?

    Yeeees, but not 100%- if the need for the information is still true at the time of speaking/writing and will stay that way, then you could possibly use the present, though I some won't like it. I don't think it is meant to be a) and the verb is meant to indicate that the answer is elsewhere.

    The best answer is c).
