    Question concerning sentance

    Hello,
    I found a sentance but do not know if it is correct:

    Above all it was highlights in medical research that ...

    I thought it has to be


    Above all it were highlights in medical research that ...
    is that correct?

    hello,
    i thougt that was is for singular and were is for plural -->

    highlights is plural --> due to this I thought that "above all it were" would be correct

    here the complete sentence:

    Above all it was highlights in medical research that provides us today with the knowledge we have about ourerselfs.

    Compare: "it was", "they were". Do you see?

    yes but they were does not fit in, so is it was highlights correct in this sentence/ context or not?

    Yes, as I said before "it was" is correct.

    And your are really 100% sure that in this context "it was" is correct
    1.
    above all it was highlights in medical research that

    and not
    2. above all it were highlights in medical research

    just as highlights is plural and the use of plural + was confused me ..
    ?

    I don't understand why "it was highlights" is correct.
    I think it should be put in passive "it was highlighted"

    It could be "it was highlighted" but the OP insists that "highlights"is the word that he has. As I said previously it would be helpful to have the complete sentence.
